The Tidemark Federal Credit Union Foundation recently announced its 2024 Scholarship Program recipients. This year, the foundation has awarded two $3,000 scholarships to outstanding students, continuing its legacy of supporting educational pursuits within the community.

Since its inception in 2014, the Tidemark Foundation has been dedicated to empowering students to achieve their academic goals. Over the past decade, the foundation has assisted 29 students in pursuing higher education, disbursing a total of $43,500 in scholarship funds.

This year’s scholarship recipients, Jemima Platel and Mekayla Petion, exemplify the spirit of academic excellence, leadership and community service that the Tidemark Foundation seeks to foster.

Jemima, a senior at Sussex Academy in Georgetown, has been accepted to Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, where she intends to study biology with the goal of becoming a physician assistant. Drawing from her Haitian heritage, Jemima is passionate about serving under-resourced immigrant communities and ensuring equitable access to healthcare.

Throughout her high school career, Jemima has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and leadership, as evidenced by her involvement in the National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society and National Science Honor Society. She has also received numerous accolades, including the Outstanding Leadership in Service Award and recognition as a U.S. Senate College Letter of Recommendation finalist.

Mekayla, a senior at Calvary Christian Academy in Dover, has shown her dedication to academic excellence and community engagement through her extensive involvement in student politics and sports. She has held various leadership positions within her school, including class president, vice president, secretary and representative. Also, Mekayla has excelled on the soccer and volleyball teams, earning awards for sportsmanship and best defensive player.

In selecting the scholarship recipients, the Tidemark Foundation considered a variety of factors including scholastic achievement, school and community activities, awards or other recognition, work history, essay responses and letters of recommendation.

“We are thrilled to congratulate Jemima Platel and Mekayla Petion as the recipients of the 2024 Tidemark Foundation Scholarships,” said Ashley Tyre, Tidemark Foundation chair. “Their dedication to academic excellence, leadership and service exemplifies the values that our foundation seeks to uphold. We are confident that they will continue to make significant contributions to their communities and achieve great success in their future endeavors.”

The Tidemark Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to Charles Gleason Jr., retired vice chair of Tidemark Federal Credit Union, for his generous support of the scholarship program. His commitment to investing in the educational aspirations of young credit union members has made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless students.
