State police investigating two-vehicle fatal crash near Milton

Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred near Milton. 

About 2:28 p.m., May 30, a Mercedes E-Class driving southbound on Harbeson Road slowed down to turn left onto Carpenter Road. At the same time, a Toyota RAV-4 was driving northbound on Harbeson Road approaching Carpenter Road. 

For reasons under investigation, the Mercedes turned directly in front of the RAV-4 and as a result, the front of the Mercedes hit the front of the RAV-4.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 62-year-old woman from Camden, and a 12-year-old passenger, were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. 

The driver of the Toyota, a 65-year-old woman from Harbeson, was taken to an area hospital where she died. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified. Two passengers, a 44-year-old woman and a 4-year-old child, were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared, and the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident.
