The City of Rehoboth Beach will celebrate Arbor Day, along with students from Rehoboth Elementary School, with a tree-planting ceremony at the school at 9 am Friday, April 19.

The ceremony will include recognition of fourth- and fifth-grade winners of the school’s annual Arbor Day poster contest. The contest theme this year is “Trees are terrific…for outdoor adventures.” Winners are selected by the Rehoboth Art League. All posters will be on display beginning April 19 through the remainder of the month in the windows of City Hall.

Ashley Melvin, education specialist with the Delaware Forest Service, will share information and hands-on activities with students.

The City of Rehoboth Beach has been designated a Tree City USA for 33 consecutive years. This recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the US Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters, denotes Rehoboth’s commitment to effective urban forest management.

To achieve Tree City USA recognition, a community must maintain a tree board or department, have a tree care ordinance, dedicate at least $2 per capita to an annual community forestry budget, and host an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
