The Rehoboth Art League will ring in the new year with three exciting exhibitions throughout January and February: the 10th Regional Juried Photography Exhibition; Flowers in Ice: Photography by Kathryn Harris; and Recent Acquisitions: works of art acquired by purchase, donation or promised gift to RAL’s Collections.
The art league will host receptions for all three exhibitions from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 10, inviting anyone interested to visit the Corkran, Tubbs and Ventures galleries to see these new shows.
The Corkran Gallery will display the 10th Regional Juried Photography Exhibition from Jan. 10 through Sunday, Feb. 2. The annual exhibit invites artists from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and Washington, D.C., to submit their latest photographic work. This year, artists were selected from a large pool of applicants, and their work represents a wide array of techniques and content, from traditional modernist approaches to contemporary and alternative media.
Exhibiting artists this year include Cathy Anderson, Gary Bank, Joseph Barbella, Scott Becque, Carol Bell, Linda Benzon, Debbie Blair, Patrick Brown, Drew Burslem, Bill Crnkovich, Geri Dibiase, Kevin Dunn, Robert Fleming, Andy Gordon, Vladimir Grablev-Dorian, Paul Hammesfahr, Chris Hardee, Michael Hower, John Hoyt, Lesley Husband, Claire Ingley, Diana Itter, James Luciana, Dave Magyar, Matt Makara, Barry Matus, Judith Picciotto, Lorraine Quinn, Cheryl Riexinger, William Robinson, Kenneth Rose, Guillermo Silveira, Jean Spratt, Peter Treiber, Rich White, John Yeatman Jr. and Rob Zane.
The exhibit is juried and judged by local photographer, Kathryn Harris, who has a concurrent solo show in the Ventures gallery. Harris will award $900 in prize money to selected artists. She will host a free public gallery talk at 10 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, in the Corkran Gallery, to discuss her award decisions and her own career as an artist.
Passionate about photography from childhood, Harris continues to explore the medium as an artist. Flowers on Ice features new images capturing her current interests and photographic techniques. An active member of the Coastal Camera Club, Harris has exhibited her work regularly around the region. She said, “Exploring the subtleties and interactions of my visual world excites me, and photography provides a means for doing this. The photographic frame provides limits and focus for attention, which allows me to appreciate details not otherwise noticed.”
In the Tubbs Gallery, the Rehoboth Art League will present an exhibition of artwork from its permanent fine art collection, including pieces never before seen by the public. Recent Acquisitions: works of art acquired by purchase, donation, or promised gift to RAL’s Collection, was curated with the assistance of the league’s Collections Committee members. The Rehoboth Art League is one of only a few actively collecting art institutions in Delaware. The collection contains more than 1,000 items, including works of art in various media; colonial furniture; artifacts and decorative art collected by the Corkrans when they resided in the Homestead; as well as an array of RAL’s organizational archives. The collection maintains a focus on mid-20th century works of art created by notable artists such as Ethel P.B. Leach, William Leach, Orville Peets, Jack Lewis, Howard Pyle, Edward Grant and Howard Schroeder.
The exhibitions are free and open to everyone during the regular gallery hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday.
