A Millsboro man faces his seventh driving under the influence charge after police stopped him driving on Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach Oct. 1.
Roy Brown, 61, was driving a Saturn SUV at 9:55 p.m. southbound on Route 1 south of Postal Lane, police said, when a trooper on patrol spotted the vehicle swerving from the right lane into the middle lane and fluctuating speeds. As the vehicle approached the red light on Route 1 at Old Landing Road, police said, Brown abruptly made a right turn onto Old Landing Road without activating the right-turn signal. The trooper stopped the Saturn, contacted the operator and detected signs of impairment, police said. Brown was taken into custody after he partially completed the Standard Field Sobriety Test. A computer check showed a court order resulting from a DUI that prohibited Brown from driving a motor vehicle, along with several prior DUI convictions.
Brown was taken to Troop 7 where he was charged with felony seventh-offense DUI, noncompliance with bond conditions and other traffic offenses. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $22,600 cash bond.
