Police are searching for a Greenwood man after he allegedly fired a gun at police Nov. 28 in the parking lot of a convenience store then fled on foot.
Members of the Kent County Governor’s Task Force and Probation and Parole made a traffic stop at 9:27 p.m. in the parking lot of Lolo’s Mini Market on Hickman Road in Greenwood. Driving the Jeep was Brian Holben, 27, who is a known fugitive with multiple warrants out for his arrest, police said.
At first, police said, Holben tried to flee by using his Jeep to push two Delaware State Police vehicles out of the way. Then when detectives tried to remove Holben from the Jeep, police said, he pointed a handgun at a detective and fired. Detectives returned fire at Holben before he fled on foot into a wooded area. At this time, police said, Holben has not been located. No one was injured as a result of this incident.
The investigation is still active and attempts to locate Holben are ongoing. Holben is considered armed and dangerous and police ask anyone who may come across him to stay away and immediately call 911.
Per Delaware State Police standard operating procedures, the troopers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave. An investigation will be conducted regarding the use of force.
