A 77-year-old Millsboro man died Oct. 26 from injuries a day after he was struck by a car while walking along Long Neck Road.
Bruce Peterson was walking westbound on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of Long Neck Road near School Lane Road at 9:23 p.m., Oct. 25, when, police say, Peterson walked into the path of a 2014 Chrysler 300. The Chrysler braked but was hit from behind by a 2015 Ford Escort. The front of the Chrysler hit Peterson, who was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries, police said.
Peterson died from his injuries Oct. 26. Police said he was not wearing reflective clothing or carrying a light while he walked along the roadway.
The driver of the Chrysler, a 37-year-old woman, and the driver of the Ford, a 23-year-old woman, both from Millsboro, were not injured.
Long Neck Road eastbound was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated and the roadway cleared.
Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues investigating this incident. Detectives ask anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Sgt. J. Burns at 302-703-3269.
