Ellen Rice Studio & Gallery holiday open houses kick off Nov. 29

Ellen Rice Studio & Gallery will host holiday open house events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1, in Ocean View.

Guests will be greeted by light holiday music, the scent of hot apple cider, and the sights of luminescent new paintings and prints of the shore. In thanksgiving to her collectors, Rice will release several archival signed and numbered giclée prints at debut prices. “Without my collectors, I couldn’t be a self-supporting professional artist all these years. Thanksgiving is my time to give back in heartfelt gratitude” she said.

“Golden Rhapsody” depicts a bright, serene sunrise over Bethany Beach. “It’s a scene that makes me want to walk into it and pause, take it all in. I thought about adding details, lightening this and darkening that, putting footprints in the sand, but I love this painting’s feel the way it is, so I stopped. I can almost feel the dampness in the air and hear the gentle surf, and it fills me with peace,” said Rice.

“Dawn at Herring Point,” a more complex oil, portrays a beach path, the Great Dune and the Harbor of Refuge lighthouse in Cape Henlopen State Park as viewed from the Herring Point lookout. “The entire scene is bathed in a rosy glow from the rising sun. It has a wonderful, warm feeling,” said Rice.

“Moonglow” and “Summertime,” two smaller paintings, will also debut in print. They are part of the artist’s 2024 porcelain ornaments.

Rice’s property at 30124 Territory Trail, Ocean View, overlooks the James Farm Ecological Preserve. Off-street parking is provided within its gates. Guests are asked not to park on neighborhood lawns.
