DBT unveils inaugural Delaware 222 list

Delaware 222 cover image and spread 2024There is a long-running joke in the First State that the supposed six degrees of separation are more like two or three degrees here.

Simply by naming your high school, community pool or local youth sports league, there is a good chance that you’ve encountered, or know someone who’s encountered, just about anyone in Delaware.

But to be frank, Delaware is a growing place – and growing fast in many corners.

With a population now over a million people, our degrees of separation are beginning to inch a little higher. And if you’re one of those new transplants, it may take you just a little bit longer to get the lay of the land and start to meet the right people.

That reality is partly why Delaware Business Times is unveiling its inaugural Delaware 222 list of the state’s most impactful business, nonprofit and civic leaders.

You’ll find a who’s who of many of the state’s most important, and up-and-coming, leaders across a variety of industries, each chosen by DBT’s editorial staff over months of debate.

Our list won’t feature Hollywood celebrities who have long left their Delaware home or certain occupants of the White House – we think they get plenty of publicity as it is. It also won’t feature any elected officials, because frankly we’re not looking to endorse or criticize any political party or official.

Our list does feature those who are creating jobs here, serving populations in need or helping to shape the state’s public policy of the future.

The inaugural publication landed in subscribers’ mailboxes this week and single copies are available for purchase and mailing by calling 302-656-1809. We’ll be rolling out profiles of our list online throughout the year.

There’s every possibility that we’ve missed key people across the state, and I hope you send me a note at jowens@delawarebusinesstimes.com about who you think should be on our 2025 list. We’ll be updating the list every year, retaining some names and replacing others to keep the list as informative as possible.

And why 222? Honestly, we liked the sound of it while it supplies enough space to fit our objective. Plus, it has great SEO.
