Cars collide in Pelican Square parking lot

Five cars were involved in a crash in the Pelican Square parking lot July 16, near Acme and Petco south of Lewes. 

The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. According to a witness on the scene, one of the vehicles was traveling at high speed and collided with parked cars. 

Delaware State Police said a Millsboro woman, 76, was driving a Lincoln “at an apparent high rate of speed” when she hit the back of a Dodge Caravan and a shopping cart. She continued southbound in the parking lot and hit the rear of a Kia Optima, which then hit a Subaru Forester and a Nissan Sentra that were parked, police said.

Lewes Fire Department and Delaware State Police responded to the scene.

The Millsboro woman was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, and the occupant of the Kia Optima, a 38-year-old man from Lewes, was also taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Police said they continue to investigate the crash.
