The City of Rehoboth Beach has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its fiscal year 2024 budget from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This is the third consecutive year that Rehoboth’s budget document has been recognized for meeting national guidelines.
According to GFOA, the award represents a significant achievement and an organization’s commitment to achieving the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To earn GFOA recognition, budget documents must meet program criteria and serve effectively as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device; an agency must be rated as proficient in all four categories and meet the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.
Finance Director Burt Dukes notes that the city’s budget includes more detailed performance measure reporting than in prior years.
City Manager Laurence Christian says: “Putting together a budget document that serves as an effective planning and operations guide for the city and also is understandable and accessible to city stakeholders is a huge task. Meeting these national guidelines definitely requires a team effort, led by our Finance Director Burt Dukes and Assistant City Manager Evan Miller.”
Across the country, more than 1,700 state, municipal, county, special district, and school district agencies have been recognized for preparing budget documents of the highest quality.
