A Georgetown man was arrested Feb. 17 for a seventh DUI offense after Delaware State Police say he caused a traffic crash in Milford.
Police say Luis Rivera, 52, was driving on Bay Road in the early morning hours when his Ford F-250 pickup ran off the roadway, went into the yard of a residence in the 3000 block of Bay Road and hit an electrical box, a mailbox and a tree before stopping.
Rivera was still in the vehicle when police and paramedics arrived on the scene. Police say he showed signs of impairment and was taken to a hospital for evaluation of nonlife-threatening injuries. Troopers smelled alcohol on Rivera, and a field sobriety test was administered. A computer search showed that Rivera had six prior DUI convictions, and an empty bottle of alcohol was found in his truck.
After being medically cleared, Rivera was taken to Troop 4 in Georgetown before being arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $13,000 cash bond.
Rivera was charged with felony seventh DUI and two additional traffic charges.
