Cordrey Charities Inc. hosted its 15th annual Holiday Party Fundraiser in Millsboro Dec. 13.
The event included all-you-can-eat-and-drink and hors d’oeuvres provided by Taste Events by Common Ground Hospitality. There was a live and silent auction, orange crush cash bar and music by DJ Zip. All proceeds will be donated to local families in need.
“Last year we raised over $27,000 and helped over 200 families, all in the Sussex County area,” said Casey Cordrey-Hershalman, event coordinator for the annual fundraiser. “I used to be a second-grade teacher, and that’s kind of why we started [Cordrey Charities Inc.] – I identified a need within a lot of the schools. There’s a lot of what’s called Title 1 schools, which means 40% to 50% of the kids in those schools are on free or reduced lunch.”
“A group of friends came together back in 2008, when a lot of people fell on hard times. They identified a group of people that really could use some extra help, and this group of friends held a gathering at one of our houses and brought gifts. From there, it continued to grow for 15 years,” said Sara Booth, event coordinator for the annual fundraiser.
