Golf action will be hotly contested at the 2024 Paris Olympics over the next four days, but if you live in the United States, you will need to wake up quite early in the morning to feel the heat. The festivities begin Thursday at 3 a.m. ET as first-round action kicks off at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France.
Countryman Victor Perez will have the honor of hitting the first tee shot before a big-time group of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Åberg goes off just afterward at 4:11 a.m. All eyes will be on that star-studded trio, but they are hardly the only significant names taking the course over the next 72 holes.
With only 60 golfers in the field, each round will go by rather quickly. Tee times are compressed — especially compared to The Open Championship two weeks ago — and there are some great groups to follow throughout the competition.
Beyond the aforementioned trio, Wyndham Clark, Hideki Matsuyama and Tommy Fleetwood will play together with Xander Schauffele, Viktor Hovland and Jon Rahm serving as another star-studded group. Another Frenchman, Matthieu Pavon, will play alongside Collin Morikawa and Matt Fitzpatrick later in the morning. Check out the full set of 2024 Olympics golf tee times.
If you’re wondering how meaningful this event is going to be for Perez and Pavon, both competing in their home country, Pavon addressed that earlier in the week: “After a few days on the Olympic village, the opening ceremony in Paris with all this crowd in front of the Eiffel Tower and all the great moments we spent the last few days, it really feels like a gold medal would be now ranked higher than a major for me.”
This week also serves as an opportunity for superstars like Scheffler, McIlroy and Matsuyama to add something to their career resume that they have yet to obtain, an Olympic medal.
