The Lewes Historical Society will offer Travel to the Garden, an art education session for students ages 12 and above, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 10, at the Lewes History Museum, 101 Adams Ave., Lewes.
Cost is $25 and includes an artist’s kit, a sketching pad, sketching supplies and take-home art ideas.
Participants will learn how to sketch garden scenes in the style of the 19th-century plein air movement.
Instructor Debra Regan will guide students through specific techniques of plein air sketching and explore the pivotal roles played by three prominent female artists. Through engaging discussions and hands-on activities, young artists will gain a deeper appreciation for the contributions of these trailblazing women.
Marcos Salaverria, LHS director of education, said, “What is a museum without art? For centuries, residents and visitors alike have captured their impressions of our seaside town in a variety of artistic mediums. This program allows younger generations the opportunity to make their mark on history, too.”
Space is limited. Participants must be accompanied by an adult, and the program fee covers admission for both attendees.
