Machine Gun Kelly (née Colson Baker) is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of his recent blackout tattoo.
On Monday, the 33-year-old musician shared an Instagram Reel of the lengthy process he underwent to cover up the previous ink on his shoulders, chest, and the majority of his arms.
“So…what else should i get now,” MGK captioned the clip, which shows him bleeding from his arms and him getting into a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to heal the ink faster.
At the beginning of the video, the father of one says, “Today marks the day that I start the physical change of my body. Let’s see what this turns out to be.”
MGK documents the entire process in the clip, sharing multiple updates throughout.
“We’ve done about seven sessions. It’s been about two weeks since we started. Yeah, this is the most paint sh*t I’ve ever experienced in my life,” he says at one point in the video diary.
MGK first debuted the blackout tattoo with a shirtless Instagram photo of himself back in February.
“For spiritual purposes only,” he captioned the snap, thanking tattoo artist ROXX.
Days later, he dropped a new single titled “Don’t Let Me Go,” in which he referenced the new body art, rapping, “I had a breakdown and tatted my entire body except one line.”
He also officially changed his stage name across streaming platforms to mgk.
For the most part, Machine Gun Kelly hasn’t revealed much about the significance behind the new ink, but his on-again, off-again partner, Megan Fox, recently shared her reaction to it during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
“He has a really special story behind why he did that, which obviously, I’ll leave for him to tell,” Fox told host Alex Cooper. “But the relationship with the tattoos that he had was very conflicted emotionally, whatever they represented — and I don’t actually know — but he didn’t like to revisit those memories of some of the tattoos that he had and he wanted to get rid of them.”
Fox, 37, described the body art as “very art” and compared it to designer Rick Owens. “It’s like an elevated version of all those tattoos that were pieced together,” she added. “I think it’s really elegant and it’s kind of ahead of its time. I think in 10 years it’ll be a trend.”
Machine Gun Kelly and Fox have had their fair share of ups and downs since they first started dating in 2020. They got engaged in January 2022, though breakup rumors emerged later that fall and again in February 2023.
During Super Bowl weekend in 2023, a source told ET that the couple had been out at several parties together and that MGK even performed at one of them “but he seemed a bit off.” The source said, “His energy was low, and the performance wasn’t great.”
That same weekend, Fox posted a lyric from Beyoncé’s “Pray You Catch Me” from her Lemonade album.”You can taste the dishonesty/ it’s all over your breath,” the actress wrote at the time.
Amid the speculation, a source said, “Megan and MGK have a passionate relationship filled with lots of intense emotions, both good and bad, but after this fight, Megan was very upset.”
The source added, “She was initially supposed to come with MGK to the event and had a whole outfit planned, but she backed out last minute.”
According to the insider, the reported argument affected MGK’s Super Bowl weekend performance. “MGK wasn’t in the right frame of mind to be performing after this,” the source continued. “He wasn’t himself and his band carried the show on their backs. It wasn’t a usual MGK performance or what people expect from him. His mic died while performing ‘Bloody Valentine’ and he tapped it and seemed annoyed before someone came to replace it.”
Since then, MGK and Fox have been spotted out together on several occasions, including in Aspen this past December. However, the status of their relationship remains unclear.
In fact, during Fox’s Call Her Daddy interview, the actress said, “I think, as of now, I don’t have a comment on the status of the relationship, per se. What I can say is that he is what I refer to as being my ‘twin soul’ and there will always be a tether to him, no matter what. I can’t say for sure what the capacity will be, but I will always be connected to him somehow. Beyond that, I’m not willing to explain.”
As for how the rapper felt about Fox’s candid interview, a source told ET that he was supportive about it.
“Megan wanted to go on Call Her Daddy to tell her own story, be forthright, and have the opportunity to speak her own truth without her words being twisted, misrepresented, or misconstrued,” the source said. “MGK is supportive and respects Megan’s openness. He would never want to silence her in any capacity and admires her strength and desire to be honest, even if her narrative involves him and their relationship at points.”
MGK has a daughter, Casie Colson Baker, from a previous relationship, while Fox shares three kids, Noah, Bodhi and Journey, with ex-husband Brian Austin Green.
