Coastal Concerts will present Trio Zimbalist at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 2, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes.
The concert will be preceded at 1 p.m. by Lani Spahr’s informative and entertaining Performance Insights.
Members of the trio – violinist Josef Špaček, cellist Timotheos Gavriilidis-Petrin, and pianist George Xiaoyuan Fu – are all distinguished alumni of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In demand across Europe and the U.S. as soloists, chamber musicians and recitalists, they form an inimitable ensemble with repertoire spanning from romantic masterworks to today’s most lauded composers.
The program consists of piano trios by Lera Auerbach, Mieczysław Weinberg and Antonín Dvořák, all featured on Trio Zimbalist’s eponymous debut album issued earlier this year. The trio takes its name from famed violin virtuoso Efrem Zimbalist, a towering presence at the Curtis Institute of Music as faculty and director for a combined 40 years. Trio Zimbalist carries on the violinist’s storied legacy of artistic excellence, drawing upon the lineage of previous world-class ensembles formed at Curtis.
The Annual Wildcard Concert set for Saturday, April 6, will feature the Canellakis-Brown Duo on cello and piano.
