Habitat Restore has expansion plans

At its Jan. 24 meeting, Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission approved a revised preliminary site plan for an expansion of Sussex County Habitat for Humanity Restore along Route 9 west of Lewes.

Included in the plan is a two-story building, additional parking and stormwater management.

The final plan will be reviewed and approved by county planning and zoning staff upon the receipt of all agency approvals.

Restore accepts donations of new and gently-used furniture, appliances, home decor and building materials and sells the goods at discounted prices.

Proceeds are used to build new homes.

Lewes to consider bus service future Feb. 2

Lewes Mayor and City Council will consider the future of the Lewes Line bus service at its first budget workshop at 9 a.m., Friday, Feb. 2 at city hall.

The panel will discuss whether to include money in its fiscal year 2025 budget for the third year of a three-year pilot program.

The options are to proceed with a scaled back service, possibly Friday through Sunday with fewer stops, or end the program altogether.

Council has conceded Lewes Line cannot continue in the same way as the first two seasons because of high costs, low ridership and aging buses.

Deputy Mayor Khalil Saliba said the city has had productive talks with DART and the Delaware River and Bay Authority about a partnership on some form of bus transportation.

Budget workshops are scheduled at 9 a.m. every Friday through March 15.

Lewes architectural group to meet Feb. 1

The Lewes Historic Preservation and Architectural Review Commission will hold two meetings beginning at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Rollins Center.

The first meeting is a public hearing on behalf of Darnell and Darryl Daisey for the potential partial demolition to allow renovation of an existing building at 111 Coleman Ave.

HPARC’s regular meeting will follow immediately after.

Dewey marketing committee meeting set Jan. 30

The Dewey Beach Marketing Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave.

Members will discuss and possibly vote to recommend to town commissioners a Dewey in Bloom project as part of town beautification efforts.

Public workshop on DART changes set Jan. 31

Delaware Transit Corporation will hold a public hearing workshop from 12 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Georgetown Public Library, 123 W. Pine St., Georgetown.

The purpose is to gather public input on proposed changes to DART Statewide Bus Services, planned to take effect Sunday, May 19.

A recorded presentation of DART’s proposal may be viewed online until the end of the comment period Friday, Feb. 9, at dartfirststate.com/Outreach/PublicHearings/index.shtml.

The in-person workshop will begin with a presentation of the proposed service changes, then a question-and-answer period followed by public comments. The public comment portion will be transcribed by a hearing reporter, and time will be allotted for anyone wishing to make private testimony directly to the hearing reporter.
